The present work aims to contribute to the characterization of forest resource use in rural settlements, taking as the case of study the settlement Horto Vergel in Mogi-Mirim, Sao Paulo State. For data collection, partially structured interviews were used, along with direct observation in the field. The farmers interviewed were randomly sampled and represented 42,63% from the total population of the settlement. The results obtained indicated that most farmers interviewed in the Settlement "12 de Outubro" (81,4%) use forestry resources on some scale, but not in a proper way, which can lead to the depletion of these resources in a medium term.
