FORESTRY RESOURCES AT THE SETTLEMENT "12 DE OUTUBRO" (HORTO VERGEL), MOGI MIRIM, SP

The present work aims to contribute to the characterization of forest resource use in rural settlements, taking as the case of study the settlement Horto Vergel in Mogi-Mirim, Sao Paulo State. For data collection, partially structured interviews were used, along with direct observation in the field. The farmers interviewed were randomly sampled and represented 42,63% from the total population of the settlement. The results obtained indicated that most farmers interviewed in the Settlement "12 de Outubro" (81,4%) use forestry resources on some scale, but not in a proper way, which can lead to the depletion of these resources in a medium term. Such resources are used for coal and wood production, as well the selling of eucalyptus stumps, essential oil production from leaves, incipient beekeeping activities and seed collection for tree seedling production. In general, forest resources are seen as secondary and supporting, or even antagonist elements for abidance in the land.3361085109
